The 6 crew of Godiva were all Wiltspol SAA whilst the 10,
yes 10 crew of Flamer apparently had the presence of some
high ranking England standard sea anglers subject to
confirmation! Last year a similar WP SAA crew won the
competition, only to see the trophy subsequently shift boats
after a less than productive species competition. For
Wiltshire this match is the start of the run up to the
National and regional police Sea Angling Comps.
It was a difficult day with at times a bucking bronco boat,
but none would mind had the flatfish, particularly Plaice,
been inclined to have some food at our expense. Nothing
doing and the Shambles were truly shambolic. All were
fishing efficiently with correct baits and good
presentation, but the bottom dwellers of the reef were not
interested.
FlamerIII crew (one of them) had better luck. A total of 5
Turbot and 3 Plaice were brought in and some Pouting, but 6
of their crew blanked as well. Honour was salvaged on
Godiva, with Paul Filer pulling in his ever so expected and
regular cod. Matty “Golden Sphericals” Watts netted a lovely
10lb Turbot which, as can be seen from the image, was nearly
albino. Unfortunately for him these species tend to be
poisonous so he had to give it away (yeah right). Alfie
Tucker pulled in the last of the day with a small Pollack.
Despite the frustrating fishing, all crew had a good laugh
in each others company and returned to Wilts having had a
thorough work out on the boat. Congratulations to Flamer III
for the sound win in trying conditions.
We will be back as Arnie said.
